Fabio Perini’s personal history is closely linked to the paper industry: born into a family of paper-making entrepreneurs, he has his first great idea at the age of seventeen, when he designed and patented an automatic felt-tightening system for paper machines.
This was only the first in a long series of technological innovations, which have deeply impacted the converting industry. Within a short time Fabio Perini, having founded his own company, became the major supplier of tissue converting machines throughout the world, with manufacturing facilities in Italy, Brazil, and Japan.
During the 1990s, Fabio Perini sold his company to the German machinery manufacturer Körber.
With the financial stability achieved in the meantime, the Perini Group in the early 1980s embarked on a diversification strategy. This began in the world of sailing yachts. Since it was impossible at the time to purchase a large, ocean-going yacht which could be sailed single-handed in the truest sense, Fabio Perini decided to found a company entirely dedicated to this aim. He thus created Perini Navi to design, engineer and sell large sailing yachts. Perini Navi is to this day, the undisputed leader in that industry.
The second diversification was in pharmaceutical technology. In 1987, Perini became a shareholder in Calmic Cisa, a company specialized in hospital and industrial sterilization. In this new field of operation, the Group’s R&D investment brought immediate results. In the meantime, Calmic Cisa has become Cisa and Fabio Perini’s stake in the company has risen to 100%. Cisa’s development of new, advanced designs of sterilization machines is continuous.
In 2004 Fabio Perini became involved into Futura spa, a converting machinery manufacturer which also incorporates Focus, specialized in winding technologies. Faper Group also established Milltech, which specializes in yankee hoods, steam plants, mist and dust removal systems.
Fabio Perini continues to expand his three main fields of activity (mechanical engineering, shipbuilding and pharmaceuticals), and the group’s turnover has increased significantly. Mr Perini has also been appointed Cavaliere del Lavoro - a great honour in Italy.
In real estate field, Mr Perini has completed his investment in Mugnano (Lucca) with FPM, and continues to develop the Perini Business Park in Brazil.
